Another Great Concert Review

On Wednesday night I was lucky enough to see the Canadian Forgiveness Tour with AngelMaker, Icosian, GlassCloud, The Contortionist, and Veil of Maya.

What an experience!

We were all cramped in a 204 person capacity room which made the concert that much better because you were right there with the musicians.

The first thing I noticed about this concert, however, was the crowd. It was the first Metalcore concert I’d been to and it was completely different than any of the other metal concerts I’ve been to (I’ve seen mostly thrash and death metal). It seemed that no one there was over 25, while at other metal concerts there are always many tolken large bearded old men. Everyone also seemed to be rocking the “scene” style of dress.

And the moshing. All it was was testosterone filled teenage boys flailing their limbs and running in a circle punching each other. I was slightly perplexed at the crowd of people that night.

Regardless, the bands were phenomenal. AngelMaker, a band straight out of North Vancouver presented some great new sounds that I loved. Icosian, out of Langely (it was great to hear some local bands!) was the same.

It was GlassCloud, however, that absolutely blew me out of the water.

The reason I went to the concert was to see GlassCloud because they have been a favourite of mine for awhile now. Little did I know that they would become the favourite of mine. They were absolutely destructive on stage. I managed to work my way right up to the front, hands on the stage, body pressed up to the stage, and face in Jerry Roush’s (the lead singer and ex lead singer for Of Mice & Men!!) crotch for a lot of the performance. Jerry amped up the entire audience as soon as the first beat of their first song arrived by exploding into jumps and microphone tricks. All the while, Joshua Travis (lead guitar), and Travis Sykes (bass) crawled across the floor, tongues out, and played guitar under their legs and backwards. And Chad Hasty basically just rocked the drums. As a drummer myself, he is a drum idol of mine and it was fantastic to see him so up close and personal.

They fucking rocked the house down. I desperately want to go back.

It gets better. After their performance, the whole band came and joined the crowd. Too shy myself to talk to them, my boyfriend broke the ice and shook Chad’s hand. So I followed his lead a told him that he was fucking awesome. Then he thanked me for coming out, etc. Then I told him I was very impressed because I am a drummer myself and he said that was so cool that I’m a drummer and asked if I had any videos on youtube and asked for my name and said it was nice to meet me and egrxchtfjvygbkuhlnijhugyftr. I am still in awe of the fact that I met him.

The Contortionist was good, although a little slow. It would’ve been hard to follow GlassCloud and next to impossible to top their performance, so I give them kudos, but their style of music is a little too on the prog side of prog metal for my liking. Lastly, Veil of Maya. I had to step outside for a lot of their concert because I was overheating in there but they seemed to have A LOT of stage presence and it was great to discover their music.

All in all a fabulous concert and I want to go back!
